RTÉ Concert Orchestra presents an evening of Essential Classics this June.

A tale of doomed love from Dante’s Divine Comedy inspired Tchaikovsky’s evocative Francesca da Rimini. The Glazunov violin concerto is a brilliant, colourful showpiece – no one better to take it on than top British violinist Matthew Trusler, described by The Times as an authentic virtuoso, playing a 1711 Stradivarius with a bow once owned by the legendary Heifetz!

This indulgent evening of Russian music also features the poignant Romance from Shostakovich’s score to The Gadfly (the theme to TV series Reilly, Ace of Spies), Khachaturian’s Masquerade Suite and more.

On the programme:

KABALEVSKY – Overture to Colas Breugnon
LYADOV – The Enchanted Lake
GLAZUNOV – Violin Concerto

KHACHATURIAN – Masquerade Suite
SHOSTAKOVICH – Romance from The Gadfly
TCHAIKOVSKY – Francesca da Rimini
